Fearless Females - Prompt 9

In honor of National Women's History Month, I will be following the blogging prompts from The Accidental Genealogist blog. The prompts are interesting and I am truly enjoying this.  Here is day 9.

March 9 — Take a family document (baptismal certificate, passenger list, naturalization petition, etc.) and write a brief narrative using the information.

This certificate was for the completion of training that my mother received when she worked for the Purdue Extension Program.

She completed the training so that she could work for for the Extension Foods Program.  I was in high school when she took this job.

The job was to go into homes of the underprivileged and teach them how to cook or host cooking classes where they would learn in a group.

Most of the families got government commodity foods.  She taught them how to best use the foods they received.  She was able to teach them to make home cooked meals. I remember her teaching them how to make bread and biscuits.  She also made lots of pies, she was an expert a pies and pie crusts.  Her pie crust was so flaky.

She was very good at the job, she had spent many years trying to feed a large family on very little money.  She understand the issues the families were facing and enjoyed teaching them to use the foods they had to best feed their families.
