Died In The Line of Duty

The story of his death is located here

I posted this on my Plummer family blog last week.  That is my dad's family history.

I don't usually duplicate, but my I felt like doing it this time so I did.

  1. Oh, Betty, I'm so glad you did that duplicate post. Somehow, I missed your post on your other blog.

In some ways, I think we have a lot in common. I can understand your hesitance in even sitting down to write such a story. It is indeed hard. While my experience is not exactly the same as yours, I lost my first husband at an early age, too. I'm actually blogging about his family right now, but it's funny that after all these years, I still have a hard time coming out and explaining--again--just the relationship, let alone the details of the loss. I don't know if I ever can just fully write it all in one post. You certainly are strong to have been able to do so.

I can also relate to your experience--though only barely--as my second marriage is to a law enforcement officer. Every night when he went to work, the possibility of that very scenario that happened to you would flash before my eyes. Every day was a risk that could be a reality just like the one you experienced.

Many people just do not realize what the pressure of living under that risk is like--and that is just speaking of those of us who just lived under the cloud of that possibility. To have actually experienced it in reality...well, I don't know...it seems too devastating. But it happens, sadly.

Thank you so much for being brave enough, and transparent enough, to not only share your story, but include a second link to it here.

    1. I am sorry to hear about your loss. It is never easy no matter the circumstances.

Twelve years after my first husband died I starting dating another state trooper. We got married and have a son. He just retired from police work three years ago. I guess in those years between I was able to let the fear go away. There were only a couple of times during those years that I ever really got worried. I couldn't have lived with daily fear.

Somehow life gives us the strength we need to move forward.

It's great to get to know you as a person. I hope your are able to write your first husband's story someday.
